Overdraft Protection
YOU CAN OPT-IN OR OPT-OUT OF OVERDRAFT SERVICES AT ANYTIME.
By default, your checking account includes Courtesy Pay coverage for checks, ACH transactions, and bill payments. This means that if your account balance isn’t enough to cover one of these transactions and your account meets the eligibility requirements, we will pay it for you—up to a limit of $500.
If you would like a different overdraft option, or, if you'd like additional courtesy pay coverage, you can opt in to one of the following options:
If your checking account balance isn’t enough to cover a transaction, we can automatically transfer funds from your savings account to cover the difference.
- Available for all checking accounts
- A $5 transfer fee applies per transaction
- Can be set up by calling us or stopping by a branch
This is a great option if you want a simple, automatic safety net without relying on credit.
Link your NSFCU credit card to your checking account for fee-free overdraft protection. If your balance falls short, we’ll advance the necessary funds from your credit card to cover the transaction.
- No transfer fees
- Can be set up by calling us or stopping by a branch
- Don’t have an NSFCU credit card? Apply online today.
This option ensures your purchases go through without unexpected fees.
To cover everyday debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals, you must opt in to this additional coverage.
- A per-item fee applies when Courtesy Pay is used (see fee table below).
- Payments are not guaranteed—we pay overdrafts at our discretion based on eligibility requirements.
If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, the transaction will be declined.
